Okay, so I have to give you faceless deviants an update.

So, my very well-paying Canvassing job at the Political Consulting firm went the way of the Dodo bird the day after the Primary election. We were told that after a small hiatus that allowed our client campaigns to raise funds in order to continue campaigning until the general election which was at the beginning of the month. However, we never got a call back and as such, I was without a job for a while. Thankfully, a friend of my family gave me a position at his Uniform shop. It wasn't much but I would be working full time and keep occupied over the summer as I looked for another job.
So, after two weeks, they cut my hours to just 21 hours a week, citing slow business and the return of an employee who was on maternity leave. Then, just this friday, I was let go, as I was the last employee hired.
So now, I'm unemployed and pretty bummed out.
Now, I usually get like this every summer since one of my biggest occupiers of my time, school, is out for the summer. However now, without even a job, it's downright depressing. All I can do is send out my Resume and fill out apps to places that keep telling me "Thanks, but we don't have anything open right now." To make things worse, I've been having dreams about Eiren again... just the other night I dreamt about seeing her marrying another guy and it really just bummed the hell out of me.
To make things worse, my Mother, who works in the mortgage loans business tells me she hasn't had a loan close in 6 months, and that in her worst case estimates, she will no longer be able to pay the mortgage. Now this happened about the same week I got the uniform shop job. I was hoping with the meager pay I'd be earning I'd be able to at least help out a bit with the living expenses.
However without a job, it's now looking impossible.
The only recent good news is that my mom got hired in a humble position doing loans for CitiBank that she'll be starting in just few weeks.
However, I'm stuck in a postition where I don't know if I'll be able to pay for a full plate of class next semester. If I were to go part time, I'd still have to find a full-time job to keep me busy and allow me to save up for the semester after, etc. In this economy, however, it's way harder than it used to be.
So now I'm giving serious thought to Joining the Military before finishing my degree.
The program I have my eye on right now is the Army's Warrant Officer Flight Training program. It doesn't reqire a degree (though it does help) and it would allow me to train to fly as an Aviator in one of the Army's many fine Rotary-winged Platforms like the AH-64, UH-60, AH-6, OH-57, UH-72, and CH-47 (and in case you're wondering, I listed them in order of my personal preference), and the pay is just a shade below that of a Commissioned Officer.
If for any reason I can't go WOFT, I'm looking into elisted jobs. Now, to be honest, one of the reasons I've alwayed eyed the military as a possible career is honestly the potential for one hell of an adventure. If were to enlist, I wouldn't ask for some job in computers or medicine; not my bag, sure my ASVAB scores in high school were shit-hot to the point where I could get any job in the military. If i wanted monotonous work like that I woulda been looking for it in the civilian world. As such the enlisted job opportunities I'm looking at are all Combat MOSs; if I can't be an Aviator, I want to be an Operator. From what I read, the Army has the most opportunities for professional development, Airborne school, Ranger School, Pathfinder school, Air assault, etc. The Marine Corps, while having better uniforms, richer lore and history, is lacking in that area (however, that's not to say I haven't ruled them out completely). The Navy and Air Force, however don't exactly offer awesome selection of Combat MOSs, unless I wanted to be a SEAL or PJ and thing is if I don't make it though selection in those programs, my prospects for being a trigger-puller drop significantly. So my current list in different programs are as follows:
1. Army WOFT
2. Army 11B (infantry, preferably Airborne)
3. Marine Corps 03xx (infantry, although ambiguous here as to what I'd want, or rather be assigned)

My best friend, tyler, who's currently an ET3 in the Navy, learning to run Nuclear reactors told me to not rule out the Air Force since his old man always said good things about USAF opportunities. So I will give him the benefit of the doubt and at least get some info from the USAF recruiters. Funny coming from a Navy man, but hey, you know what they say about the Navy... "I love the fuckin' Navy, and the Navy loves fuckin' me!"

Anyway to sum it up, I'm gonna be joining the military unless some financial miracle allows me to continue my schooling. Although I'll admit it's 10 times more alluring since I got the summer blues. Part of me feels like I'm stuck in a rut and that a little time getting shot at on the other side of the planet may do me some good. I'll admit since I started college, it's been kinda hard to take my studies seriously when the reward for all that work seems so far away.
I don't know... I've been praying about all this for some time now. I really don't think anything that's been happening to me lately has been coincidence so I just gotta see what path God puts before me and then cowboy up and follow it.
I'm gonna go hit up a recruiter either tomorrow or wednesday and hear what all the branches have to say.

So, well, that's pretty much it for now.
Those of you feeling the squeeze of the times... I feel your pain.
Those of you who've managed to keep your heads above the water, count your blessings.

Good Night, and Good Luck...

For sure, I was looking for some inspirational photos. There aren't too many good ones of naval aviators on deviantArt.

Also top gun was and will always be one of my favorite movies, watching it as a child aspired me to be a naval aviator one day, I enlisted in the US NAVY just yesterday. Can't wait to see more photos from you =]

when i went to school, they asked me what i wanted to be when i grew up. i wrote down "happy". they told me i didn't understand the assignment and i told them they didn't understand life.
As much as I appreciate the flattery, I really have to find a way to make it abundantly clear that I am not an Aviator. I'm just a college student paying my dues and working on my degree until I can commission and hopefully earn my wings.

I am aware of that, I read your page before I took a gander at your gallery =]. I was speaking in broad terms, I still have great appreciation for the photos and I was also fond of seeing your common interest in Top Gun.

oh, okay... it's just that you wouldn't be the first to make that mistake here on dA, and I've had to make that clear to a few people just so they don't get the idea that I'm trying to pass off as something I'm not (at least not yet, hopefully). But yeah, thanks again; I'll keep posting photos as the planes come in.

Thank you for the favorite :) The russian fighters are great
If you're referring to the ones in my recent deviations, that's actually an American F/A-18C just painted up in soviet markings for the adversary role.
